Godaddy Hacked!

Switch from Godaddy to Siteground

Why we switched from Godaddy to the more secure Siteground

 Dear Valued Customers,

Last week, GoDaddy notified us that an unauthorized party used their web hosting account credentials to connect to their hosting account via SSH. The security incident that took place on October 19, 2019, was discovered on April 23, 2020, after the company’s security team discovered an altered SSH file in GoDaddy’s hosting environment and suspicious activity on a subset of GoDaddy’s servers. Then on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, Amazon’s cloud-computing arm experienced a historic outage, which brought down many popular websites and services causing a supply-chain and financial catastrophe.

S.I.T.E. Media and our family of companies were affected and is recovering from  this security breach and outages.  We have been a long-time affiliate of GoDaddy and offer their services and products in-house via: www.shop.sitemedia.biz. GoDaddy is the world’s largest domain registrar and a web hosting company that provides services to roughly 19 million customers around the world.   Godaddy also buys space on the Amazon Web Server and resells it to the public. Both giants are responsible for hosting millions of major websites, including our own personal family of sites.  Many of our clients may or may not have subscribed to our S.I.T.E. Godaddy services. Subscribers should have received the same notice we received from Godaddy. We’ve decided to part ways with Godaddy website hosting and think you should too. Godaddy marketplace is still alright to purchase domain names but we recommend Siteground for quality hosting, all on the Google cloud.

We are still trying to recover files and have been experiencing incredibly long hold times with Godaddy technical support upwards of 4 hours!. SiteMedia has a stellar reputation for integrity and searches out the best technologies and software to integrate with our client projects. Our team rolled up our sleeves, migrated out websites, and is still waiting on Godaddy tech support to find our missing files of 8 years. Our team did extensive research and found some amazing QUALITY web hosts out there. After many favorable reviews, we’ve decided Siteground was the most recommended, not only by WordPress.org but by notable techies as well.

Amazon Web Services, hit with historic outages causing supply catastrophe

Robotic vacuum cleaners couldn’t be summoned. Whole Foods orders were suddenly canceled. Parts of Amazon’s mammoth retail operation slowed to a standstill.

Amazon Web Services, the leading provider of cloud infrastructure technology for businesses large and small, was hit with a historic, hours-long outage on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. Popular websites and heavily used services were knocked offline, angering users and underscoring the severity of problems that can arise from having so much economic activity reliant on technology from just a few vendors.

AWS controlled 33% of the global cloud infrastructure market in the second quarter, according to Synergy Research Group, followed by Microsoft at 20% and Google at 10%. Revenue at AWS jumped 39% in the third quarter from a year earlier to $16.1 billion, outpacing the growth of 15% across all of Amazon.

Tuesday’s outage began around 11 a.m. ET and was mostly resolved by Tuesday night. Amazon confirmed that service issues with AWS’ main US-East-1 region, located in Northern Virginia, were causing problems for its warehouse and delivery network. The company hasn’t said what caused the outage.
